Disclosure information

The following information provides you with an important overview of Sherpa Limited, our duties to you, fees, and how we manage complaints.

Licence status and conditions

Howden Broking Limited (FSP1001677) (“Howden”), a related company of Sherpa Limited, holds a financial advice provider licence issued by the Financial Markets Authority. Sherpa Limited (FSP650789) is authorised by that licence to provide financial advice services. You can find Howden’s Disclosure Statement here.

Nature and scope of advice

Sherpa Limited provides financial advice to clients about their general insurance needs.

Our financial advisers provide financial advice in relation to domestic general insurance, such as house, contents, landlord, motor vehicle, and boat insurance, as well as commercial general insurance, including commercial property, business interruption, commercial motor, marine, liability, professional indemnity, and cyber insurance.

When providing advice, we access a wide range of general insurance products from various insurers in both the New Zealand and overseas markets.

Fees, expenses, or other amounts payable

Sherpa Limited may charge fees for providing financial advice, and for arranging, altering, or cancelling your general insurance programme. If a fee applies, we will disclose this to you at the time the advice is provided.

In some circumstances, we may recommend third‑party service providers to assist in providing advice, such as property valuers, surveyors, or motor vehicle valuers. These providers will charge their own fees and will advise you of any applicable costs before they commence work on your behalf.

Conflicts of interest and commissions or other incentives

Sherpa Limited may receive a commission when you pay your insurance invoice or where we refer you to a premium funder with whom you enter a premium funding arrangement.

Financial advisers are remunerated by way of salary and may also receive bonuses or other incentives. Sherpa Limited and its advisers may also receive indirect benefits from insurers or premium funders, such as business lunches, attendance at industry events, or promotional items.

We recognise that commissions and incentives may give rise to conflicts of interest. To manage these conflicts, we have policies and processes in place to ensure advice is based on your objectives, needs, and circumstances, and that any conflicts are appropriately identified and managed.

In some cases, we may rebate all or part of a commission and instead charge a fee, depending on the nature of the services provided.

Complaints and disputes process

If you are not satisfied with our services, please raise your concerns in the first instance with your financial adviser or Sherpa Limited. We will take your complaint seriously and seek to resolve it in a fair and timely manner.

If we are unable to resolve your complaint to your satisfaction, you may refer it to Financial Services Complaints Limited (FSCL). FSCL is an approved independent dispute resolution scheme that handles complaints about financial service providers, including insurance brokers. FSCL’s service is free to consumers, and its decisions are binding on us (but not on you). You can contact FSCL on 0800 347 257 or via their website, fscl.org.nz.

Duties

Sherpa Limited and our financial advisers are bound by the duties set out in the Financial Markets Conduct Act 2013. These duties require us to:

  • Meet standards of competence, knowledge, and skill set by the Code of Professional Conduct for Financial Advice Services. These have been designed to ensure that we have the relevant expertise to provide you with advice.
  • Take reasonable steps to ensure you understand the nature and scope of the advice provided, including any limitations. This will help you ensure that the advice provided meets your goals and objectives.
  • Give priority to your interests when providing advice and ensure our advice is not materially influenced by our own interests.
  • Exercise care, diligence, and skill.
  • Meet standards of ethical behaviour, conduct, and client care.
  • Not offer or recommend a financial product that contravenes the Act or related regulations. This gives you peace of mind that the products we recommend are compliant with relevant laws.
  • Make disclosure information available to you when advice is provided. We must not provide false, misleading, or incomplete information.
